LOVING BIRD
160 x 130 cm
Oil on canvas
2020

In this portraiture, Sudigdo gave another symbolism of a love bird that perch on the bride's hand. This bird symbolizes the girl's condition. She is ready to leave her parent's house and start a new home with her husband-to-be. The blue background speaks of faithfulness from both sides. Thus, the cycle continues with the present unity that will produce another generation of strong, loving and faithful individuals.

In this piece, the late maestro, Sudigdo, was inspired by the wedding procession of his niece. By Javanese custom, the bride and the groom would partake in the "Siraman" ritual. A symbol of soul-cleansing before the union takes place. Both of them would have a vest made out of strings of Jasmine for the ceremony. Just like the one he painted.
