In this enchanting portrait reminiscent of 19th-century aesthetics, Yuma, a Balinese dancer, embodies grace and tradition in a captivating tenun dance costume. The photograph captures the timeless beauty of Balinese dance, with Yuma's poised and expressive stance paying homage to the island's cultural heritage. The intricate details of the tenun costume, coupled with the classical composition, transport viewers to an era where elegance and tradition intertwine seamlessly.

Stephan Kotas, originally from Prague, Czech Republic, has made Indonesia his home for nearly two decades. After a sucessful career in fashion and commercial photography he chose to step back from modern digital medium and make a shift towards the root of his craft.

He decided to bring wet plate photography process back to Indonesia. This half forgotten historical technique comes from 19th century and hasn’t been practiced here since.
