Mount Merapi is one of the largest active volcanoes on the island of Java. The volcano is still dangerous as it has regular eruptions from time to time, but it also makes the land very fertile for people to cultivate. These two paradoxes are visible in this artwork by Nur Hidayat. He chose to paint lush greeneries with Mount Merapi as the backdrop. Instead of focusing on the mountain threats, he gave us a peaceful landscape that can make anyone at peace whenever they visit the place.
